How to enjoy Seattle in 2 days

This past December my husband and I took a trip to Seattle with 2 of our very good friends Emily and Kyle. We had to plan around a few work schedules, so in the end we were only left with 2 full days in the city. Here is how we made it work!

Thursday night: We landed at the airport, settled into our Airbnb in Belltown, and had dinner at La Fontana Siciliana.

Friday—Day 1

Macrina Bakery—Breakfast at Macrina Bakery.

Beneath the Streets—We started our day taking a tour of the underground tunnels in Seattle. This was SO COOL. It was very historical and helped me understand the background of the city. I didn’t know anything about the history of Seattle! The tour guide was also hilarious and we had a great time listening to him. This tour was a perfect way to kick off our trip because after that we understood how to get around better and it made it more enjoyable! The company we went with was Beneath the Streets, and I got a Groupon that cost us $38 for four people, which was half of what it usually costs (online it’s $19/person).

Safeco Field—Next we toured Safeco Field, where the Seattle Mariners play. I had never toured a professional baseball stadium before! My husband was extremely excited as this was the #1 thing he wanted to do in Seattle. The tour was 2 hours and about $14 a person. Our tour guide was very sweet and you could tell she really cared about the stadium and the people that work there. We got to see the owner’s suite, sit where the press sits, walk next to the field (don’t walk on the grass!), chill in the dugouts, and see inside the visitor’s dressing room.

Pike Place Market—Of course we had to go to the market! We started at Matt’s in the Market. We shared the Chips & Dip which were absolutely delicious, and then my husband and I both had the Bacon Cheeseburger that I am still drooling over. YUM! Next we walked around, shopped, and bought some souvenirs. We stopped by Rachel’s Ginger Beer (I didn’t try one, but everyone else loved it!) and Beecher’s Handmade Cheese (you have to try the macaroni and cheese), and then checked out Gum Alley. This was disgusting, but not as large and cool as I expected. Just a small alley with a bunch of gum wads on the walls!

Space Needle—The Space Needle is what you’d expect. The view was very cool but there was scaffolding. They are installing glass floors for the restaurant, so it will be cooler when that’s done!

The Crab Pot—We had dinner at The Crab Pot at Pier 57.

Seattle Great Wheel—After dinner we walked around Pier 57 and decided to take a ride on the Seattle Great Wheel! It was pretty expensive. The view was great—probably better/more fun than the Space Needle—but I don’t think it’s worth the money. It should definitely be cheaper for only 3 go-arounds!

Saturday—Day 2

Island Adventures—Alright. Coolest part of the trip right here with Island Adventures. I did a Groupon with this trip as well and we spent $92/person, while the normal price is $124! We went on a boat tour for about 4-5 hours and saw sea lions, seals, and orcas!!! We saw up to 15 and were able to watch them for almost 2 hours straight. It was extremely cold on the water but well worth it. Seeing them in their natural habitat is something I will never forget!

Kerry Park—211 W Highland Drive. Better view than the Space Needle. You won’t regret it!

Purple—We had dinner at Purple Cafe & Wine Bar. I had the veal and pancetta Bolognese and my husband had the grilled double R ranch New York strip. Both were amazing and the atmosphere was wonderful. It was laid back while also feeling extravagant. We sat upstairs so there were a lot less people than downstairs. After that we quickly stopped into the original Nordstrom store and then headed home.

Overall, it was an amazing 2 days. The city was pretty much empty because of the holidays, which we absolutely loved. All of our Lyft drivers kept telling us how traffic was so much better than usual! We will definitely be back. It was such a great trip and a really nice break from the Christmas chaos back home. We flew back just in time for Christmas Eve festivities!
