Packing List: Toiletries

I am going to start blogging about different packing categories, and first up is toiletries!! As I mentioned in my first packing blog, Why I love packing, I do NOT sacrifice my toiletries for space. This is somewhat true, and it really depends on where I am going/how much room I have, but in general, I do not leave out important toiletry items just to make room for another pair of shoes or pants. How do I do it?!

Travel size toiletries

Initially, I told myself that travel size items don’t really give you that much more space. But if you go ALL travel size, you really will notice a difference! This is especially true if you are traveling carry on-only, because you can’t bring anything too big per TSA rules anyway.

I haven’t used links because you can find most of this stuff at your local Target/Wal-Mart: Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, body wash, shampoo/conditioner, loofa, floss, hairspray, lotion, body spray/perfume, shaving cream, skincare regimen, sunscreen, mouthwash, makeup remover, hand sanitizer, etc.

Simplify your routine

If I know I will be traveling and my skin will be getting dried out, I try to exfoliate and do a mask a few days before I go. This not only helps my skin, but also prevents me from needing to bring 8,000 skincare items with me on my trip.

When I curl my hair it can last a few days, so I will wash and curl my hair right before a trip to avoid needing to spend a lot of time on it! That way I only have to do minor touch-ups while I’m gone.

Bring only what you need

Do you really need a whole tub of lotion if you just use it on your legs? Is your skincare regimen huge, but you know you only use a dime-sized amount each time you wash? Here are some tips to bring only the amount you need.

  1. Measure out how much product you use. For example, if you use two pumps of your face wash, know that you will need 10 pumps for the entire trip.
  2. Grab an empty contacts case or clear container. Put those 10 pumps into one side of the contacts case or into the little container.
  3. To be extra secure, you can put cling wrap over the liquid and then twist the cap on top, close the lid and then wrap the whole thing in cling wrap, or place the containers into a small ziplock bag!

I hope these tips will help you on your next trip! Be on the lookout for more packing tips in the future!
